This video is the third in a series published through collaboration with Unlocking Silent Histories. Narrated in Maya Kaqchikel with English and Spanish subtitles, it explores the sustainability of the fishing industry in Guatemala’s Lake Atitlán. Filmmaker Ingrid Maribel Xingo Ajanel is a student of law and social science, and is passionate about projects that help Indigenous youth and the environment, such as the restoration of beautiful Lake Atitlán. Xingo Ajanel is originally from the municipality of Panajachel in Sololá, Guatemala. Once she attains her degree in law and social science, she aims to pursue a master’s degree in a specialized branch of law. Her goals are to grow intellectually, professionally and ethically, gain experience in many fields, and volunteer for important causes in her home community.
