Writers, Photographers, Filmmakers
Cyril Christo and Marie Wilkinson have been working together as a husband and wife team since 1997, when they began investigating and documenting the relationship between the Indigenous human and natural world on five continents. Their first book of photography in black and white, Lost Africa: The Eyes of Origin (Assouline 2005), explores the ecological and man-made challenges facing tribes from Ethiopia to Namibia.
With their son Lysander, who has gone with them on expeditions to the Arctic, Africa and India, Cyril and Marie published Walking Thunder: The Last Stand of the African Elephant (Merrell, London 2009) and In Predatory Light (Merrell, London 2013), which has a prologue by Dame Daphne Sheldrick and is dedicated to the three largest predators on earth: the lion, the tiger and the polar bear.
Their most recent book, Lords of the Earth: The Entwined Destiny of Wildlife and Humanity, was endorsed by Jane Goodall. Their upcoming book, Wonder and the World: A Childhood Among the Species, with an introduction by Paul Watson, will be out in early 2024. Their feature documentary film, Walking Thunder: Ode to the African Elephant, will kick off Kat Kramer’s Films that Change the World in Los Angeles in 2024.
