Ryan Helcoski is a human being who mostly studies the impacts that biotic things have on abiotic things, and vice versa. So, broadly speaking, ecology. His scientific publications include work in phytology, animal behavior, dendrochronology, Ichneumonini phylogeny, ecological economics, landscape ecology, soil science, and climatology — because he can’t make up his mind what science is best.
Currently a PhD student in Wildland Resources at Utah State University, Ryan is also a science reporter for Utah Public Radio. He has worked abroad for various environmental and academic agencies in Costa Rica, Panama, Peru, Ecuador, India, Indonesia, and South Africa. He proudly worked as a high school science teacher for over ten years in Baltimore and still considers it to be some of his most meaningful work. He is passionate about ecology and science communication.
